Ahhhh, spring is in the air. Flowers blooming, grass growing (well weeds), days are getting longer as well as warmer, birds chirping, yep it’s finally here. But that’s not what we get excited about is it? No, it’s March Madness baby. College basketball’s biggest tournament the NCAA. With over 100 million Americans filling out brackets. Sixty-four seated teams with 1 big winner no doubt UNC lol. Wow, who can contain themselves.
But wait, there is another “March Madness” it’s fishing season. A time when river shad and striped bass also known as “Rock Fish” start to run. Thousands of people flood the rivers in hopes to catch their limit of these fish. The smell of boat motors running, rods bending, scales flying, nets breaking, O yea baby it’s “March Madness” fishing style.
Speaking of fishing, did you know that Jesus asks us His followers to “Fish” (or share our faith). His “ask” is known as the Great Commission. As a matter of fact, the first five books of the New Testament have this “ask” in them. Matthew 24:19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47, John 20:21 and Acts 1:8. So the question is if we have been asked to share our faith “Fish” why don’t we? Why do we make excuses? Which by the way I heard an excuse joke a while back of a guy driving all over the road so a Police Officer pulls him over and says sir I need to give you a breathalyzer to which the driver says I can’t I’m an asthmatic. I might have an asthma attack and die. The officer says well let’s go to the station and do a blood test to which the driver says I can’t I’m a hemophiliac. I might bleed to death. The officer says ok well walk this straight line to which the driver says I can’t I’m drunk. Point is we are all full of excuses but if you are a follower of Christ you have to understand one thing “Followers Fish”.
When you call him Lord that means he gets to call the shots and if he says “Go Fishing” or share your faith we can’t say well I’ll think about it, no the one who bled and died and took our bill and paid it in full asked us to so we fish.
With that being said I want to give you “Four reasons why you need to be fishers of men”. The answers can be found at 951 E Booker Dairy Road Smithfield, NC 27577 Awakening Church this Sunday at 10:30 am. Look forward to seeing you there…
